Grou, the beginning and end of your holiday, was built on a mound and around the year 1000 the mound was heightened. The old town of Grou, as a protected landmark, is definitely worth visiting, and in particular St. Peter’s Church with its distinctive saddleback tower.
Instead of St Nicholas, in February the people of Grou celebrate the Feast of St. Piter. This Frisian speaking saint is named after the apostle Peter, the patron saint of sailors and fishermen.
Because of its location, Grou has developed into a famous watersports centre, and therefore in the summer season there is always a pleasant bustle and there are popular restaurants and nightlife. Also the village has three supermarkets so you can also do your shopping in the village.
The various restaurants and catering facilities offer a choice of many types of menus and specialties. It is worthwhile mooring up on Friday or Monday evening in the new marina of Grou.
