Nowadays you can still experience the Dokkum of the past when you walk past the beautiful old hulling mills; “The Hope” (1849) and “Zeldenrust” (1862). Alternatively you can take a ride on ‘het Dockumer Lokaaltsje’, the train that travelled through Dokkum in the last century, which even had a famous song written about it. You can also take a boat trip in a restored barge through the canals of Dokkum, although this is no longer pulled by a horse or the skipper.

The Centre
